Asia Pacific Electric Two-Wheeler Market Size & Share by 2032
The Asia Pacific electric two-wheeler market is expected to reach USD 9.31 billion by 2032, from USD 4.54 billion in 2025, with a CAGR of 10.8%.
Electric two-wheelers are rapidly
transforming into connected mobility devices, many of which now include
integrated telematics, remote diagnostics, smartphone-linked apps, and OTA
updates that enable manufacturers to deliver new features. Manufacturers are
also rolling out safety and rider-assist features. For instance, Ather Energy
introduced ARAS on its scooters, which features traction/skid control and
fall-safety logic to enhance stability and protect riders in challenging road
conditions. Similarly, companies such as PURE EV, via a partnership with
JioThings, are embedding IoT-based monitoring and cloud-connected vehicle
tracking into their scooters. This enables real-time battery diagnostics, GPS
tracking, remote locking/unlocking, predictive maintenance alerts, and theft
prevention. These advances in connectivity, digital safety features, smart
maintenance, and flexible electronics are expanding the role of electric
two-wheelers from simple vehicles to smarter, safer, and more integrated
mobility solutions, better suited for urban commuting, fleets, and shared
mobility use cases.

Several Asian manufacturers are
now pushing high-performance electric motorcycles with advanced battery
systems. For instance, Wuyang Honda in China launched the smart electric
motorcycle E-VO (2025), which utilizes a high-capacity battery pack developed
by Ampace/CATL, underscoring a move toward battery architectures optimized for
power and performance. Meanwhile, battery-technology leaders such as CATL are
scaling up production of alternative chemistries. In April 2025, CATL unveiled
its new sodium-ion battery brand, Naxtra, which promises high energy density
(~175 Wh/kg) and faster charging. This option may support lighter, more
affordable electric motorcycles or high-usage fleet bikes in Asia.
Simultaneously, research into next-generation technologies like solid-state
batteries continues apace in China, with commercial-scale use projected around
2027. For instance, Yadea has
begun rolling out electric scooters powered by sodium-ion battery packs, which
trade some energy density for lower costs, reduced reliance on scarce metals,
and improved safety. Simultaneously, CATL is scaling up alternative
chemistries (including advanced lithium-iron-phosphate and sodium-ion cells),
which offer long cycle life, better thermal stability, and affordability
attributes that align well with mass-market and commuter two-wheelers across
Asia.
Across Asia, electric
two-wheelers with motor power above 3 kW are rapidly gaining traction as riders
seek stronger performance and improved range. These mid-to-high-power models
deliver faster acceleration and durability comparable to gasoline motorcycles,
appealing to both daily commuters and enthusiasts. In India, brands like Ola
Electric and Ultraviolette are introducing 3–8 kW scooters and performance
bikes designed for highway speeds and longer rides. In China, manufacturers
such as Niu and Horwin are scaling production of premium 3 kW+ models that
feature upgraded lithium-ion packs and regenerative braking systems. Southeast
Asian players, including Malaysia’s Blueshark and Thailand’s Etran, are
focusing on urban mobility fleets powered by efficient mid-power motors capable
of handling heavy city traffic. Falling battery and motor costs are making
these higher-output two-wheelers more accessible, while supportive regional
policies and improved charging networks further boost adoption. With evolving
regulations allowing higher power ratings and better performance expectations,
the 3 kW-plus segment is quickly emerging as the dominant category in Asia’s
electric scooter and motorcycle landscape.
India is emerging as one of the largest markets for electric
two-wheelers, supported by strong government initiatives, such as the FAME-II
scheme and state-level EV policies that promote the adoption of clean mobility.
The country is witnessing a rapid expansion of charging networks and
battery-swapping infrastructure, improving convenience for both personal and
commercial users. Increasing fuel prices, growing environmental awareness, and
heavy urban traffic are prompting consumers to opt for electric scooters and
motorcycles as cost-effective and sustainable alternatives. Leading domestic
players such as Ola Electric, TVS Motor, Ather Energy, and Hero MotoCorp (Vida)
are investing heavily in R&D, battery technology, and localized production
to enhance performance and affordability. The growth of e-commerce and delivery
services is further fuelling demand for electric two-wheelers, with fleet
operators like Zomato and Swiggy transitioning to EV-based delivery models.
Additionally, collaborations between OEMs and energy providers, such as Ola’s
partnership with BPCL and Ather’s grid expansion, are strengthening India’s EV
ecosystem and accelerating nationwide adoption.
